As the manager of the Oceanside Hotel, Maisie Swenson is used to dealing with tempramental guests. When Mr. Dayton, the guest in Suite 360, insists that his room is haunted, Maisie is not sure what to think. She goes to his room in an effort to calm the upset guest. In the room, she spots two wine bottles and a half bottle of brandy near the bed and believes that they may be the source of Mr. Dayton's ghosts.To compound her problems, the hotel is expecting a Hotel Critic and Maisie suspects that the critic is the chronic complainer in the suite next door, Mrs. Richardson. In an effort to calm Mr. Dayton, Maisie asks Mike, one of her Security team, to stand guard outside his room to ensure that nobody enters.Fortunately, Mr. Dayton is scheduled to check out the next day and the Security Guard, Mike, confirms that his is packing to leave. Mr. Dayton had requested a late check-out, but when he fails to actually check out, Maisie goes to investigate. She finds Mr. Dayton on his bed, but he isn't going anywhere, since he is dead. The coroner says he has been dead since about 2:00 AM, but how is that possible when Mike spoke with his around 8:00 AM?How did Mr. Dayton die? When did he actually die? Was his death natural causes or murder? How could anybody have entered the room on the 31st floor unnoticed, with a guard at the door? Can Maisie figure out what is going on and still maintain the Hotel's Five Star Rating?CeeCee James has a way of describing her characters that makes you feel that you know them, even though there are some you would prefer to avoid, if at all possible.
4 starsI purchased Suite Causality: An Oceanside Mystery book 5 by CeeCee James and this review was given freely.Maise encounters another mysterious death at the Oceanside Hotel at the same time a hotel critic is expected. Mr. Dayton reports a ghost then is found dead in a room with no way in or out but with multiple signs of foul play. This short cozy mystery is drama and action packed riddled with hotel dilemmas, Maisie's mom's antics, a complex murder mystery, a hint of Author Maise, and ends with a touch of romance.
I enjoyed this book. The mystery is clever and complex enough to be interesting. The characters, while not completely drawn, are interesting. It is a fun, not too easy read. There were a couple of things that kept it away from being 4 stars. While the writing is decent, there are some places where a word or phrase is annoyingly wrong, but I admit that's my vocabulary/grammar OCD speaking. The incomplete characters are also distracting because what you do see is interesting so it's disappointing not to learn more. That also leaves some of the interactions unclear. All in all, quite a decent read.
What a fun new twist on the locked room murder!I adore Maisie and her quirky mama, not to mention the equally quirky Basset Hound her mom tends to sneakily spoil.An interesting array of guests at the luxury resort Maisie is in charge of, a possibly haunted room, a terribly nervous guest and a hint of mobsters make Suite Causalty a very Suite Read!
The Oceanside Hotel again has a kerfuffle in the works that Ms Swensen handles professionally. She helps solve a mystery and maintains top rating of her establishment too. I enjoy this series of mysteries. They keep my interest right to the end and provide a twist to the plot as well. Looking forward to the next one.
Maisie the general manager is very busy trying to keep the Oceanside Hotel a five star hotel, when a murder occurs. Now she has double duty as he's is also helping local law solve the mystery. Good clean mystery and quick read.
I love this series; this book included but there were many editing errors throughout which is not the norm for this author. Still a great story and I eagerly await Book 6.
This was another winner. I enjoyed all five books. She writes great characters and good storylines I every book. I highly recommend all her books. Diana Romano
