I like to keep these calendars in my kitchen because they're small & go w/ my decor.

Loved my calendar from last year, so I ordered another one for this coming year. I absolutely hate the quality of paper that it is printed on. I think the calendar should have been offered at a cheaper price since the paper quality did not match the previous years. Maybe the calendar should have been reprinted on better quality paper. If I were the artist I would not have settled for such poor quality.I ripped off the first page and ended up ripping off January too. So Disappointed. Also, I write in Sharpie on my calendar. This bleeds straight through. Horrible and Very Disappointed!

This is the second year I have purchased this calendar and I am sad to say that like everything else these days, the quality is not the same. The paper is very thin and the cardboard backing is flimsy. I would have gladly paid a little extra for a better product. I would never have ordered this product had I known of the drastic downgrade in materials and I won't again unless this is corrected.

A must for my kitchen every year ! This is the full size calendar based on the price I thought it could be the mini which I have at work. Further I the product description they indicate a thinner paper was accidentally used which may explain the cheaper price. The quality is still very good and marker won't bleed into the next page. We are already enjoying the months looking forward to using it next year.

I've used Susan Branch calendars for many years but this year the quality was terrible. Instead of using the heavy paper they always used with the heavy back board they switched to thin paper and thin backboard. Very cheap, very disappointed. I will not be buying them anymore.

Always a welcome addition to our home. My daughter loves Susan Branch and so do I. Such sweet and wonderful things are scattered the days of the week throughout the calendar. My favorite so far is the note saying today , visit your local quilt shop. Being a quilter, I found that sweet and inspiring! Little notes are everywhere. Susan has such a talent with drawing and making things special. When the years is over, this is one calender that will NOT be tossed....but kept to look thru over and over!

I am a fan of Susan Branch and love all her products including her books and calendars. While the artwork is exceptional, as always, the paper quality is very sub-par. I am surprised that this was acceptable to her, given the usual exceptional standards of her work.Given this fact, I agree with many that the price should have been significantly lowered.

These have the BEST illustrations, quips & quotes! The space for writing in your daily appointments, birthdays, etc. is great. This year, the paper is a bit flimsier, or thinner than years before, but I still LOVE Susan Branch, so I still bought 2. One for me, one for a gift.

I've been buying this calendar for many years and look forward to it each year. The paper is a little thinner this year but this is noted one her website as well as her newsletter. The illustrations are beautiful as always.

What a nice book to inspire our young mission workers who headed off to Tennessee this summer to work on some homes for Habitat for Humanity! Easy to read vignettes and colorful photos plus Jimmy Carter's inspirational words make it a wonderful accompaniment to service projects of all types.

Wanted to show students other options for livelihood. Thanks.

It was a treat to read this compelling account of Habitat for Humanity's work - very heartening to gain an update of all Habitat has accomplished since its founding in 1976, all the homes built, lives changed around the globe by the spirit of volunteerism - "the hand up," versus "hand out" approach that is Habitat for Humanity. The numerous stories and photographs paint the picture well. The enthusiasm of the repeat volunteers, including Jimmy Carter, who penned the Foreword, is infectious. The book is well written and succinctly organized. I particularly enjoyed reading about Habitat's history; its tie to the doctrine of Koinonia Farm, an experimental Christian Community started in 1942 in Americus, Georgia, "to test the social theories of its principal founder, Clarence Jordan" that "nothing mattered more than...loving all people and caring for the poor."President Carter's message that "the secret that so many other Habitat volunteers have learned: (is) that you get much more out of the work than you put in" is powerful indeed - and timely - and a wonderful gift to receive and to pass on to others!

A few years ago, one of my radio show guests was a representative from Habitat for Humanity . . . I was impressed by both what he had to say and the organization and now am even more so after reading IF I HAD A HAMMER (see also Section 11) by David Rubel. This it seems the book was originally written for younger readers, I think it can be enjoyed by individuals of any age . . . what I found particularly interesting was the fact that Habitat for Humanity does much good for the entire world--and not just this country. In addition, I was touched by the experiences of both the volunteers and those who had homes built--such as this one:* Sherwood and Marsha's experience illustrates a point that Danielle Weir makes about interacting with people in need. "Something I learned when I was young and have relearned in my nonprofit work is the importance of inviting the poor to a sense of dignity," Danielle says. "Habitat does that by inviting people to participate in the building of their own home. It'd certainly be easier to have professional builders do all the work and not get involved with homeowners and volunteers, but Habitat is about more than just the physical outcome. It's about the process, and part of that process is creating dignity in the lives of the partner families. Another part is having everyday people come out to help. All of it is connected."I also liked how the author shared some of the background that led to the success of Habitat for Humanity:* Fuller's first move after the conference was to open a headquarters for Habitat in the back room of his new law office in Americus. At the same time, he returned to one of the core principles that he had learned from Clarence Jordan: The "haves" and the "have-nots" of the world are bound together. According to Jordan, the rich and the poor need each other. The poor need resources, such as money, in order to improve their lives; and the rich need a connection to God and other people, which their money can't buy. For this reason, Jordan saw the Fund for Humanity as an effective and dignified way to bring rich and poor together for the benefit of both. As Jordan once wrote, "What the poor need is not charity but capital, not caseworkers but coworkers. And what the rich need is a wise, honorable, and just way of divesting themselves of their overabundance."The book even got me thinking, particularly this tidbit from the foreword by Jimmy Carter:* We affluent Americans frequently fail to realize that these things are missing from the lives of many people, not only around the world but also here in our own country. When the new millennium began in 2000, I was asked to make a few speeches in different places around the world about the greatest challenge facing humanity. It didn't take me long to identify what that challenge was: the growing separation between rich and poor. Did you know that in the year 1900, the people who lived in the world's ten richest countries were, on average, about nine times richer than the people who lived in the world's ten poorest countries? That doesn't seem like a lot, but as time passed, the gap widened. By 1960, the world's richest people were thirty times wealthier than the world's poorest people, and today the world's richest people are more than seventy-five times more wealthy!Lastly, several photos from around the world added to my enjoyment of IF I HAD A HAMMER.

Many people have heard of Habitat for Humanity and might have even worked on one of their projects, but may not be familiar with its history and what actually goes on behind the scenes. The basic mission of this organization is to "rid the world of substandard, or poverty housing" and improve the lives of individuals so "that they can not just survive but thrive in the world. In this book you will learn about people like Warren Fuller whose dream life turned into a nightmare because he was so obsessed with his business and making money that he didn't notice his marriage was falling apart. When Warren gave away all his money and began anew he started seeing the needs of other people, including the need for decent housing. You'll learn about him and another man named Clarence Jordan who claimed that building homes for others was a "dignified way to bring rich and poor together for the benefit of both." Complexes such as the Mascot Flats building along with individual homes have enriched the lives of many. You'll meet the recipients of these homes like Debbie Kinder as they share their stories, you'll learn how many hours of sweat equity are required of the home owners, you'll learn how the houses are designed, how designs change with individual or cultural needs, you'll meet the volunteers, you'll learn about "blitz" building, and much more! For those who know a lot about Habitat for Humanity, this book may not have much to offer them. For others this text is an excellent introduction to this organization. It is a leisurely, interesting read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have worked on the construction of one house, but never really knew a great deal about Habitat and was very pleased to be reintroduced to its principles. This book, designed with the young adult reader in mind, just might plant a few ideas in their minds. With "more than 1.1 billion people worldwide [living] in inadequate housing" there is a lot of work to be done!

After I read the first book in (Rain Fall) this series I have become an enthusiastic fan of the Assassin for hire John Rain. I like to read a series in the order they were published in order to better understand and follow future novels. I just completed (Rain Storm by Barry Eisler) the third book in this popular series and like the previous two books I loved this action packed novel. This 335 page hardcover novel begins where the second book ends. John Rain is again hired to eliminate Belghazi but to make it look like a natural death, which is Rain’s specialty. In the meantime, however, there seems to be some competition to Kill Belghazi by some guy Rain calls karate. He named this guy Karate because the guy liked to show off his kata skills in public. If karate gets to Belghazi before Rain can do his special thing, there will be no payment. Rain is going to make sure and winds up taking karate out. There are numerous twists and turns and a whole lot of interesting characters to make this book move at a steady pace. John Rain keeps trying to start a new life under a new name and identity but keeps being contacted by those who appreciate his special skills and are willing to pay big bucks for them.If you are a John Rain fan you should check out this third book in the series.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Tactical Principles of the most effective combative systems).

John Rain goes to Macao. As in *Clean Kill in Tokyo*, *Winner Take All* was meticulously researched by Barry Eisler. John Rain's target? A man by the name of Belghazi. Before he went to Macao, Rain goes to Las Vegas to learn all about games of chance. Knowing that his target is addicted to gambling, he takes the time to learn how to play Baccarat and other games, so that he can get close to him. He goes to Macao three weeks before and scopes out the hotels and casinos that his target is likely to frequent.Rain goes to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Macao with Keiko, a Japanese escort girl that he hires for his cover as an older Japanese gambler with a young mistress. At the hotel, he encounters another assassin perhaps with the same target. In the meantime, Belhazi shows up with a beautiful woman companion. How does Rain get close and kill his target? This is of course the foundation of the John Rain novels, the tension of the kill. The story shifts into retrospective mode, back to how the CIA (tongue-in-cheek nicknamed Christians in Action) contacts him and hires him for this mission. We find that John Rain had escaped from Japan to Brazil, where he makes himself as anonymous as possible. Not trusting in anybody, he goes from Sao Paulo to Rio, leaving false trails to make sure that nobody can find him and he would know if anybody tried. Then, one day, he encounters an old colleague from Afghanistan days and the offer of the job with the CIA.Throughout the novel, you can witness the meticulous work that Eisler did for the book. He knew how many entrances the Lisboa casino has, where one can fight and kill somebody at the ferry terminal, that a Citibank branch is near the MTR station next to the Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong, and the fact that HK$50,000 was over the limit of cash withdrawal for Citibank. You can't know this kind of information without going there and doing it. Most people wouldn't notice such details but a former CIA operative would. The conversations were remarkably written. Eisler not only has a keen ear for the American idiom but for Japanese idioms as well. Occasionally, he has the protagonist comment about the idioms. For example, a character says, "I'll level with you..." and Rain responds that he doesn't like this quip because it suggests that the person was bull-s***ting before. He knows what he can and cannot do. For example, he does not try to fake conversations in Portuguese or Arabic. The fight choreography was based on authentic knowledge. The author description at the end of the book pointed out that Barry Eisler earned his blackbelt in the Kokodan International Judo Center in Japan. The acknowledgements thanked many expert fighters, including Savate and advanced sniper practice. Finally, the premise of America selling its soul for Saudi crude rang true. This is a very enjoyable book and hard to put down. The John Rain novels are also so well edited that you can read them out of sequence.

Rain is hired by the CIA to kill Belghazi.Belghazi had become a primary supplier to various Southeast Asian fundamentalist groups whom, post 9/11, Uncle Sam had come to view as a serious threat. Hence the hiring of Rain by the CIA.Rain is using Keiko, a young hired escort for cover. He and Keiko are staying in the same Hotel that Belghazi will be staying in. Of course Rain is always on the lookout for tails and anything out of the ordinary. Thats when he spies a man he calls Karate.Karate is a hitter like him and Rain wonders if the CIA has sent a second hitter. This would be a clear breach of their agreement. This presents a situation for Rain. He of course gets rid of Karate but there are those pesky questions he will need to ask.Belghazi arrives and has a tall blond with him. She is beautiful and from her actions is very security conscious as she scans the room just as Rain has. Not your average arm candy. So begins one helluva good read.Rain teams with Dox and Delilah.Delilah is the blonde who came in with Belghazi. She works for the Mossad and is on a mission of her own. She and Rain join forces. They both want Belghazi dead.Dox is a sniper par excellence and he saves a badly wounded Rains life. He also becomes the partner Rain desperately needs.Just a great read and well worth those five stars.

The story starts right out of the gate in chapter one which is how I like books to start. But, in the middle of the story about Rain's mission, it goes back in time without any clear warning. I wasn't sure if his mission was aborted or what. Then, finally, I realized that the author was providing the background story about Rain before he accepted the mission. Then, the story returns to the current and the mission at hand. The story was pretty good but it wasn't one of those where you couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. I think I like the main character. I decided that I will read another book in this series to see if I can get into it. If you like the government assassin type of book, give this a read. The story line is pretty straight-forward with only the typical complexity brought on by the involvement of multiple government agencies.

Enjoyed the book very much, but gave just 4 stars as I've enjoyed the other John Rain books a bit more. Got a little "talky" in places. Liked the new characters, Delilah and Dox and I've already downloaded the next book that I think has them in it too. I realize John is getting older and needs "help" with his job, so I guess Delilah and Dox will fill the bill.
