Michal Stawicki has done it again. He has a knack for learning what to do by studying it, doing it, and then sharing with others what worked and what didn’t work for him. I like the fact that if it works for him (and he’s just an ordinary guy) it can work for me too - if I apply his action steps. I’ve been following his advice in a private group, and have realized that by actually following his outlines, I’m making progress in my own writing career like never before. I started simply by implementing the kind of daily habits he shared in his other book (The Art of Persistence), and now I’m looking forward to implementing the tips he shares in his latest book. Take a look, and you will see this book is filled with an assortment of tried and true information about how to network authentically and why cultivating online relationships is not only easy, but necessary.

This was a great read. I connected with the author on so many levels with his struggles to become proficient in the English language to overcoming shyness. There are some really good lessons in this books and was encouraged by his sage advice on being genuine and authentic when you are connecting with others. There is no real need to come up with flashy schemes and tactics when you are being your true self. I was encouraged to know that the facade that is so prevalent in corporate American does not work in the online world of entrepreneurship. Fake is out, and true genuine are in. The author provides some great guidelines for networking with others, and some practical advice of how to use blog comments and Twitter to build your network. I would highly recommend this to others.

The first book I read by Michal was the Art of Persistence... I was hooked...his authenticity and forthrightness shone through...I shared his book with my small audience because what he wrote worked for me and I wanted to share his wisdom. His new book about networking on line is for anyone wanting to expand their online influence. I liked that the book was a short read but jammed packed with actionable items. At the end of each chapter he gives a summary and leaves you with an action item. I'm putting my To Do list together now. I can also attest that he operates just as he explains in his book. After reading the Art of Persistence and reaching out to Michal he responded appropriately and I soon became a part of his book launch 'team' for Making Business Connections that Count. I will be incorporating his suggestions as I begin my new blog. Thanks Michal for your book and doing me the honor of allowing me to be a part of your process. Good luck and Congrats!!!!

I honestly feel like this book will help take my business to a higher level. I'm the last person that I thought would ever be interested in "Networking", (typical introvert here) but the way the book lays it out I'm actually looking forward to connecting more with fellow authors. This is a quick, concise, enjoyable book but absolutely full of indispensable information. I finished it in less than 90 minutes but in that time it gave me awesome reference points on initiating, building and managing online relationships. I am a bit of a novice in this area but the advice and pointers make a lot of sense and really diminished the intimidation factor of online networking for me. Reading Mr. Stawicki's book was a very worthwhile use of my money and (more importantly) my time. I will definitely look to his other books for more valuable information that is time/cost effective.

The author is inspiring. He's an everyday Joe who's applied himself, and in this book, he shows you how being yourself, choosing future connections wisely, and reaching out consistently can make all the difference in your networking endeavors.This is a good read that I recommend.

Ok I am beginning to not trust Amazon reviews... How do 74% of people rate this 5 stars?!?! This book is beyond boring and basically repeats the pareto principle over and over and over again.... How many different ways can you say it? Well that's what this book does.Seriously, this could have been a short magazine article. The author provides very few examples outside of the obvious ones as to how to he applied this principle in his own life. Not to mention, some of his examples are extreme suggesting that you can ignore 100% of your emails and inferring they are a complete waste of time. The book is straight forward and easy to read. Damon writes in a down to earth, friendly style. He is not lecturing. He is not talking down. He does not use complicated ideas. He is like a friend telling another friend where to find the treasure he has discovered. I really appreciated the practical suggestions and the open invitation to try things out. Sure this is a kind of "self-improvement" book, something that you read for information (i.e. it is "work") but I actually enjoyed reading it. Practical, down to earth and, dare I say it "fun"! The 80/20 rule really helps you take control of your life; make wise decisions in a short time; and advance towards your life goals. Highly recommended. Applying what Damon shares will indeed change your life for the better.

Although the title is not catchy, it truly represents the content presented. How do I regularly find myself in the weeds of details and never achieve anything or feeling satisfied? I have yet to live the 80/20 way. I have been following the 80/20 way for over a month now and I can honestly say that it has simplified my life and I actually get more done! The book is a very quick read, like most text from this author. Give it a try!

In other words, much of what we do is unproductive!Luckily, we can learn to focus on the 20% and thus create the leverage needed to change our lives. In his short, lucidly written book, Damon Zahariades cuts straight to the heart of the matter and shows exactly how. His writing is concise, clear and engaging. It can be read quickly in one sitting, but don't be surprised to find yourself consulting it again and again.The book does not promise an end to all our earthly woes, but it does provide a valuable tool for personal growth. I highly recommend it!

I only read the 20% of this book that was important. Just kidding. I read the whole thing. A good read and recommended for personal, financial, and career growth.

This series is great! I am a homeschool mom. I used this book to prepare for the Standardized test. It repeatedly covers what will be on the test, so my son breezed through the test and scored well above average. If there was something he was having problems with, we used another workbook just to cover that. Otherwise, I just explained to him what he needed to know (ie. in correct these sentences) and he picked it right up. This was basically all we used. No need to pages and pages of doing commas, or apostrophes. He just picked it up by doing the exercises. A must have!

I have every level of these books and use them daily! Love the very short 5 questions pages that you can use daily. Each day has 2 sentences that need correcting and then varying skills to complete the remaining 3 questions. The students seem to do well with them and it can show me quickly and easily what skills they struggle with more

As a resource teacher, this has become a very important part of my writing program. It helps reinforce the skills students continue to need reinforcement on as well as touch on skills like parts of speech, simile/metaphor, reference materials, etc. I use it with my 5th graders to help touch on skills they are learning in their general ed. classes. I already had 1st-4th grade daily language, and I use them as well.

I have always used the older version of this book. This version is okay, but not nearly as challenging as the older version.

I chose 5 stars for this purchase because it was exactly what it was advertised as, a valuable classroom asset, quick and easy to use. Great for second language learners and those behind 2 or more grades with skills. This book was $26 at two teacher resource stores near where I live and it was 10 to 12 $ cheaper through amazon.

Homeschooling family and this was a great supplement for our kids. Especially those weeks when life was a bit chaotic and school cannot take a back seat ;)!!

I have used this book as a relief teacher and found it to be a useful teaching tool in the classroom. It allows me to guide students to understand the normal expectations of written language. This book encourages students to do a little bit of practice each day which has been shown to improve results. I also use the grade 3 on a daily basis as a home educator. I have noticed that my child looks forward to and enjoys our daily language discussions.

I bought this for my son as extra practice to supplment what he was learning in school. No issues with it, served its purpose.

Ellwood takes on the political side of the leaders of the mythological restoration. Without neglecting the inner dimension of their thought, he focuses on the relationship between the whole idea of innerness, presented in terms of a "gnostic" approach, and the currents of mid-20th century politics. None of the three subjects, Jung, Eliade or Campbell, comes off as heroic, but their dabbling in right-wing perspectives is placed in a larger, and for me, fascinating, context.However it must be acknowledged that his approach is academic. At times lively and engaging, the book also slogs through the references to relevant thinkers, unable in the end to bring drama to this "gnostic" debate. If it weren't for the subject matter, I suspect it would be a dull book.

I love how this scholar writes. Not for the beginner though. Having some knowledge of at least one of the three mythologists listed in the title will be helpful.

Professor Ellwood very properly informs the reader that he was himself a student of Mircea Eliade at the University of Chicago, so I suppose that I should mention that I am an acquaintance of Professor Ellwood (although not a student, but a fellow Tolkien-fan). However, I am taking the time to review the book mainly because I enjoyed it tremendously, and learned a great deal from it. I would suggest it to anyone who has read a little of any, or all three, of the writers it presents, and is considering reading more. Doing so should reduce arguments about these sometimes-controversial figures, or at least put them on a better intellectual foundation."The Politics of Myth" analyzes the political and social thought -- or lack of thought -- of three influential writers of the middle and late twentieth century. It provides enough biographical detail to keep the reader grounded in reality, and just enough information on their theories of mythology to show how much, or how little, they are related to the cultural and political environments in which the three men worked. The story of their influence also receives some coverage, particularly in connection with the Bollingen Foundation's publications of Jung and Eliade, and Campbell's role as editor for the Bollingen Series.Eliade and Jung both have had large readerships for relatively difficult writers on often esoteric subjects, and simplified versions of their views are widely distributed, not always accurately, or with attribution. The large number of people who became familiar with Joseph Campbell through Public Television will here discover something of his place in the intellectual world.The book is neither an indictment nor a defense of these writers on mythology (among other subjects). I finished my first reading with some definite impressions. Eliade, sometimes dismissed as a Romanian Fascist, comes off as a disturbingly unpolitical man in an age of totalitarianisms, never quite grasping that his early literary celebrity in his native country made him a valuable asset to any movement which, even falsely, claimed him as a supporter. Jung appears as a hearty Swiss peasant, deeply provincial despite his vast learning and (flashes of) genius, unable or unwilling to see beyond the symbolic exterior of the Nazi movement for a very long time. Campbell, fortunate to live in a more benign political environment, is seen rejoicing that he has freed himself of his Irish Catholic background, not noticing that his disdain for Judaism, distrust of England, and sympathy for Germany, might have something to do with his upbringing. A second reading reminded me that this short book is packed with telling details, and will probably suggest other interpretations to other readers

Frequently a scholar's review of other scholars work carries a personal bias, usually unintended, but present nonetheless. Professor Ellwood's progressive exploration of Jung, Eliade and Campbell lives and works as influenced by the political climate of their days is as evenhanded an effort as it has been my pleasure to experience.For example, he (rightly) examined the varied interpretations of Campbell's mantra, "follow your bliss", without citing the 'correct' one which Campbell himself seemed to leave vague intentionally in accord with the best of human imperatives; e.g., "do unto other..." or "do not do unto others...".As a bonus, the references are wide ranging and appropriate to the task. What a pity I was never his student, but I can read his work. That the used copies of this work sell for the "new" price may be the best review availble.

A refreshing read that gives the details about the lives and times of these three brillian men. It helps to debunk all the soot that has accumulated upon their work from the burning fires of conservatives and the religious right. The attempts to tarnish their names with accusations of anti-semitism and other prejudices fall flat in front of the facts. This book shows that people must deal with the political waves of their own times, but it does not necessarily make them of the same dogmatic ilk.

This is an excellent example of a critic making a name for himself by "reading into" & interpreting (misinterpreting) other hugely respected authors according to one's own projected ideology. Since not one of the three famous & brilliant mythologists studied would agree with Ellwood's assessment of him, why should we assume his oh-so-sensitive political perspective & believe he & his particular judgmental frameworks have more insight into the workings of their minds than they do themselves? We shouldn't. Each of them would be aghast at this so much smaller intellect misreading him for its own ends. I implore you: If you wish to understand Jung, Eliade, or Campbell, read Jung, Eliade, or Campbell themselves. The three together complement each other nicely. If you must read Ellwood, be fair & read some of the great ones he "demythifies" for us *before* you venture into his abuse of them.

Hackers and painters is a book written by Paul Graham who ran a startup in the 1990’s which was later sold to Yahoo. He is now running Y Combinator.Hackers and painters is a book which reads like a collection of random essays. The first few chapters is about the start of computing and about childhood while later chapters are about both starting a startup and socioeconomic policies. The last chapters are about programming languages where he strongly argues for lisp.Anyone so have read one of his essays know how well articulate Graham can be and the this book is no exception. The chapters themselves are really well written even though he sometimes argues unconvincingly.In the end I did not feel that this book was anything else than a collection of essays and while some are interesting, it does not save the entire book. A stronger focus and some narrative between the chapters would improve this book immensely.

Not to get too personal but Paul's essays speak to my soul. His blog is the first one i recommend for founders and one I keep going back to.Oh the chapter about nerds! oh my. Growing up a severe bookworm I always felt traditional schooling was the kid version of the shawshank redemption. Apparently I wasn't the only one.What this Paul fellow is doing with his ycombinator startup monopoly in Silicon Valley is fixing the inefficiencies of a broken school system and sharing the education on his blog and youtube.If you haven't seen Stanford CS -183b (his is lecture 3) it is a refreshing reminder of where the focus should be ~ learning how to create things people actually want not gaming and tricking the system with a bunch of hype.

Paul Graham's "Hackers and Painters" is a collection of separate articles from Paul. The articles are well written and funny, though I frequently did not agree with the content. Since one of the earlier articles was on censorship, I'd say... that was probably the intention :)The first article is triggered by Pauls growing up and asks why nerds are unpopular when you are younger. He explores memories of his childhood and tries to clarify them. He continues with a article after which the book is named. He explains that he has *some* education in painting and explores the similarity between hacking and painting.The next couple chapters are an attack to taboos in general. What can we say? Why can we say that? And he claims that hackers are more comfortable breaking taboos, breaking the rules.In the article "The road ahead" he is making predictions related to web-based server software, of which some are insightful (or were insightful). He claims that server-based software will be the future and the recent years have certainly shown that to be true.The next couple of articles relate to capitalism and I did disagree with a lot of the statements he made in here. Though, often his points are carefully crafts.. here I found them simplistic. It annoyed me and even thought about stop reading it. The well-written-ness made me continue though.The middle of the book contains an article about spam. This one doesn't fit well in the book and could have better left out, in my opinion.The last articles in the book relate to programming languages and were fun to read. Paul is a serious Lisp fan and tries to argue about programming languages in such a way that it always supports his chose of lisp. He does make a couple of good points.All in all, I've enjoyed reading "Hackers & Painters". Its an easy read with interesting strong opinions from Paul. I'd rate it between 3 and 4 stars, mainly because the amount of learning is not high. Though, I remember some articles got me laughing out loud, so decided to go for a 4. Worth reading if you like strong opinions relate to hacker cultures.

Disclaimer: I'm a big fan of Paul Graham's writing and works. I've been reading his blog for ages, and am a somewhat obsessive reader of his website Hacker News.I recently decided to purchase and read Graham's book, "Hackers & Painters", to casually read through some of his favorite essays. This book is comprised of 15 of Graham's essays pulled from his blog, which he updates several times a year. The topics of his essays are diverse, but all represent a hacker's point of view.What makes this book worth reading is that you get inside of Paul Graham's mind. He has an amazingly clear writing style (one that I am extremely fond of), and is able to walk you through his thoughts and arguments in a clear manner.If you're at all interested in entrepreneurship, technology, or programming, I would give this book a read. It can be read casually in a day or so, and will make you think deeply about the topics discussed for weeks afterwards.

This book was very interesting to my 17 year old son who is a computer nerd.

I enjoyed this book so much the first time I read it that I decided to get a copy for my friend.

This book is really good. This book is well written for the non computer literate person. I finished it in about 2 days. Paul is a awesome writer and I'm going to buy some more books of his! I'm going to read this book again. One last thing, the essays in this book are awesome!

This book, purportedly about some aspects of programming, provides wonderful examples of the power of small teams that trust each other.
