I read this, and the book, "Trading in the Zone" years ago, and "didn't get it", despite my "cute" little markings in the book, and all the highlighting. It wasn't until I sustained ALOT of pain, that I went back, and started really USING these books, and am finally truly understanding them. I NOW understand why they are considered the GOLD STANDARD in Trading psychology. NO ONE BUT MARK DOUGLAS gets it to this level, and I've studied and read "everything". Mark nails it. Unfortunately, I did not have a clue before, and thought I could use my wits and cleverness to get ahead "without" everything that he outlines. It is, and will continue to be my "Trading Mental Bible", and I will brainwash myself with this until it penetrates every synapse I have. This is truly a Must Read if you are serious about trading the markets.

I wish i would of read this book before i started my journey into trading but am glad i have read it now. Very good info on the mindset of that we should be using. Thank you Mark Douglas and your team for putting this book together. Even if you dont use this book for trading, the mindset to establish to help you look at yourself for finding peace in your life is worth the read.

This book clearly explains how BELIEFS drive cognitive functioning. If you are interested in more accurately perceiving object reality (rather than your filtered versions of it) then this book is for you. Douglas explains how beliefs filter reality. He then goes on to explain how to manage your beliefs, such that you become more adaptive and learn faster from experience. He provides specific mechanical steps for engaging in belief change.This book is actually about becoming more fully conscious ! Douglas shows you how. Douglas confirms the findings of Ariel and Mack in the book INATTENTIONAL BLINDNESS. To appreciate this book, you really do have to understand the IB phenomenon as described in that book...An earlier reviewer quotes this from the book, poking fun at it:"Our committed expectations about the future will act as a force on our perception of market information to control its flow into our mental system in such a way as to avoid a confrontation with anything that doesn't conform with what we already believe is possible."What Douglas is saying is simple: predictions are beliefs, and you will automatically ignore data that invalidates your beliefs. However, since trading is so psychologically demanding, it is in fact a laboratory for understanding cognition and cognitive effects produced by emotions like fear. This book is not about charting, analysis of stocks, or mathematical methods on how to cut losses and make profit. Actually it contains no single stock chart. It does address the psychology of trading in general and our own in particular. What makes it a good book is the fact that it was written by a trader not a psychologist. The author focuses on mistake we make "like compounding our losses" and the deviating effect it has on us. He discusses how fear can blind us from seeing the correct market direction. Finally, he mentions that treading is all mental and that was my experience as well. The book could have been improved by much had been accompanied by charts and common mistakes people do in shorting and going long in different markets. I would recommend it for the price, it is worth for frustrated traders.

Best book I have read on currency trading so far. Consistency is the key to successful trading. There is no consistency without discipline. Must read for all beginners.

The most illuminating, fascinating and terrifying book I have read in a long time, possibly ever.

This insightful new book is part of the interdisciplinary, multi-media “Creating Freedom” project of the same name, which also includes a documentary series, interviews, and paintings. This review is a result of a free-wheeling conversation between a friend and myself about this book.Like Howard Zinn, author Raoul Martinez presents history from the perspective of those who haven’t written it. His premise is that neoliberalism -- defined as “a modern politico-economic theory favoring free trade, privatization, minimal government intervention in business, reduced public expenditure on social services, etc.” -- is not natural law, but has become a belief system, an ideology, what one might even consider a ghastly religion.Prior to the Inclosure Acts in England, “the commons” were the lands under common control, and tribalism was egalitarian. The more we clustered, however, the more we used hierarchy to take care of and benefit our tribes. Beginning in 1604, the Inclosures Acts allowed the nobility to own and control the Commons, so that what were once common resources for all became privatized for the King and his own tribe, called “the nobility.” That model continues today, though the wealthy and privileged are the new nobility who have commandeered and hoard what should be common resources.Martinez’s brilliance is in the integration of his extensive (and extensively cited) research, articulating how we’ve been deprived of our natural rights and sources to live well, illuminating the cognitive and behavioral habits that imprison not only us, but also our “privileged” captors (the “nobility” or wealthy). Current educational practices solidify and justify standard, individualistic frames around our interpretations: are you ambitious, or lazy? Are you being punished, or rewarded? But Martinez shows that these factors are not as under individual control as we believe believe -- access to resources is dependent on the lotteries of birth and luck. The media reinforces our magical thinking about economic systems and mobility, preventing great masses of people from identifying and reclaiming “the commons,” trading away a fair distribution of resources for the faint hope of making it up to the next economic/social class.So why do people of good will and great intelligence defend the economic and social systems of privilege? It is a result of systemic ignorance and an educational system that reinforces notions of scarcity, and hopes for individual privilege, rather than educating for the cultivation of genius that would foster the intersection of each person’s interests, best abilities, and their role in community.Martinez understands the role of King in creating money out of nothing, and that a downstream commodification by the King allows a few to control the banks and corporate structures, At the same time, technology is moving everything authentically toward “free.” The old system is increasingly archaic, but very intelligent people who have been trained in the paradigm in “the service of the King” still resist the wide distribution of goods. (For example, there’s a big lobbying effort underway by cable companies to prevent municipalities from setting up their own wifi at much lower rates.) Check out Stanley Milgram’s extensive work on the psychology of obedience; our inertia continues to support the privatization of everything from intellectual property to genetic information.What does brain science tell us about authentic well-being? Once a certain level of well-being is established (currently in the $75K range in the U.S.), the individual escapes poverty, and at that point, moral values should push us to democratizing ownership and the workplace. Bankers and those accruing corporate wealth are no authentically happier than those with $75K a year. Catch the gold ring! It’s a thrill, but then what? Perhaps Martinez’s book will provide a new framework to challenge these systems, illuminate the immorality of privatization that benefits a few at the expense of the many, and break up the inertia.The educational system has distorted our tribal kindness and empathy, but these damages could be offset by new models of exposure, mentorship, and opportunity. What's called for now is a moral sense applied to education, with techniques, methods, and interventions that combat the archaic system of privatization. (In Scandinavian countries, for example, the citizenry doesn’t resent high taxes for public benefit.)There’s much richness and wisdom in the way this author frames and explains. I encourage others to further explore the author’s ideas in conversational groups. Don’t defend the cognitive prison. If we can use education to link intellectual brilliance with high moral development, we may yet see a future of freedom.

There really aren’t enough superlative adjectives to do justice to “Creating Freedom: The Lottery of Birth, the Illusion of Consent, and the Fight for Our Future” by Raoul Martinez. A quick look at the Table of Contents of this amazing book, which obviously any intelligent reader will do, gives a clear idea of how far-ranging this treatise is. A glance at the 90 pages of notes indicates the depth and breadth of the research. Regretfully, the uncorrected bound galleys I read as a Vine reviewer does not contain the index but doubtless that will be equally useful and illuminating. However, it is in the narrative style that Martinez really demonstrates his mastery. A brief bio states that he is “an artist, writer and award-winning documentarian whose work has been exhibited in London’s National Gallery”. I believe it is the author’s creativity and vision that makes this an extremely vital book for our present day.The basic premise with which Martinez begins his discussion relates to what he calls the “myth of responsibility”. This is the basis of the all-pervasive notion that adult humans, as a result of some inherent quality of freedom, “create” themselves. Thus success or failure, morality or immorality, wealth or poverty, and so forth, are “chosen” by each individual. This is, of course, patent absurdity. Not only do we NOT choose our genetic make-up, the location and circumstances of our birth, the cultural forces which impact us, or environmental factors beyond even the control of the greater society; we are clearly at the mercy of such factors from our conception onward. Thus Martinez points out that the current cultural bias towards injustice and inequality based on this false assignment of responsibility where none in fact really exists obfuscates the issue and prevents us from dealing with the vast problems the solution of which is a precondition of the survival of the human species.I will not go any deeper into an analysis of Raoul Martinez’s thought at present. Suffice it to say that a potential reader need go no farther than the first chapter to become convinced – unless he or she is hopelessly mired in preconceived ideas – that this is an extremely valuable and delightfully readable book. Five stars is really not enough to do it justice.

Mr. Martinez has some interesting and provocative ideas; however, he seems to have little interest in subtleties that might compromise his arguments. His writing style is more like 'mansplaining' with broad assertions that he seems entirely confident are totally correct.

At one time the author recommends looking at reviews in PC World for hardware and software. The author emphasizes that one must take action to protect oneself from adverse consequences while on the Internet. This reminder is always useful. On the negative side, the information becomes repetitive.If you are not familiar with the subject of cyber security, the book will probably be a useful introduction to the topic. If you are familiar, it probably won't add much to what you already know.

This is a short, yet excellent read on Cyber Security for Mobile devices. In today's world you need these basics or you will be vulnerable to a plethora of attacks on your computer, phone, tablets, et al. There are basic definitions that you "hear" but that few define...such as what really is "Phishing (location 119 on the book). For the briefness of this book (and these days, we don't have the time to read long books), it covers quickly but thoroughly a variety of related issues including who the ISA and the IAAN (Internet Assigned Number Authority). Solid read and for the price it's a steal.

This books attempts to make people aware of security concerns they probably don’t consider about when using their modern gadgets. Frankly, I'm surprised at the overwhelmingly positive reviews. This ebook had so many grammatical and typographic errors it was rather unpleasant reading to say the least. The author seems to be translating from another language. I found the content of the first several chapters simplistic and somewhat repetitious. To be honest, I didn't get much further as I returned the book right away in order to get a refund.

Inspiring, challenging and touching! It's a story of God-given faith, sacrifice and a greater love for others than for yourself, which is a true testimony. I specifically enjoyed reading about the TenBooms and refugees daily lives and everyday activities (together) and how that prepared them for greater service for others as they were faithful in the small things. I highly recommend!

This book helped shed a lot more light on the underground workings of the Dutch Resistance. I loved the book and I will note it was quite different from the movie - I loved the movie but prefer straightforward true to life stories.

One of the best books I ever read on WWII in the Netherlands. If you read Corrie ten Boon's book the Hiding Place you must read this. Hans Poley tells what was going on in the ten Boom family from a college kid's point of view about the war. Hans had to hide l. The movie is called the Return to the Hiding Place. It' is very interesting book by Han Poley.

This book is a nice follow up to "The Hiding Place," easy to read, well written and descriptive. In it we learn a lot about the remarkableTen Boom family.

The first man who was hid by the ten Boom family in Holland under Nazi rule gives his story of what happened during and following the War. Awesome story.

The book is a required text for a class. I am not a Philosophy major, so I cannot offer comment about the ideas presented by the selected philosophers. However, the selections in the book represent all the great medieval thinkers, and the flow of the book provides an excellent understanding of the progress of philosophical thinking through the time period.

The book was in the same condition as listed by the seller. No wear, and tear. It looked like new.

This text is literally the most comprehensive Medieval Philosophy Text I have in my personal library. Schoedinger has put together a one of kind text which includes such Medieval philosophers as William of Auvergne, Solomon Ibn Gabirol, Levi ben Gerson, John of Paris, Matthew of Aquasparta, John of Salisbury, and so many more which are normally not included in the 'typical' collection of medieval compilations. Thus, this text not only covers the major philosophers (Augustine, Aquinas, Ockham, Scotus, Averroes, etc), but perhaps the lesser known scholars as well.What is more, the topics included are quite exhaustive. Topics such as the existence of God, ethics and the problem of evil, God's foreknowledge and freewill, theology, political philosophy, knowledge and sensation, universals, logic, philosophy of language, and physics, are all included. So, as you can see all the bases, more or less, are covered from this particular period. Moreover, if you are into the study of metaphysics, you certainly should not ignore the writers/philosophers of the medieval period. If you did, you would not be quite as well rounded in your study of metaphysics. Therefore, here is an all-in-one text which exhaustively covers this particular time period and their writings.Additional features, which add such nice dimensions to the text, include, introductions to each philosophers (historical background, setting in which they wrote, etc.), excellent footnotes and bibliography for one to branch out into other sources of study, and certain drawings and illustrations used in various places. What more can I say except that this is one of my more favorite general philosophical reference texts in my library. I highly recommend it - get it before it goes out of print!
