The book was laid out in a very random way. Pictures didn't always line up with the content of text on the same page. There was very little info about buildings and sites. I had hoped for a little detail so I could explain to my son what we are going to see on our trip. Simple facts like how tall a building is, what year it was built, and a brief history (similar to what the adult Lonely Planet books do) was what I expected. Instead this was more like visual snapshots of NYC sites with no to little supporting text.
Wonderful book for traveling with kids! My son (9) read on a recent trip to Italy and we made him read it before we went. He was happy to read it and it was a fun item of interest on the planes and waiting along the way. As we saw the sights, he had all sorts of interesting facts and tidbits to share with us. The adults on the trip enjoyed reading it too - not a boring guidebook, just fun facts about the sites we were visiting. Good quality - love the way the book jacket can acts as bookmarks as well. Not maps or guides/prices, etc. for adults, but interesting information to help understand and appreciate the travel more! And of course, silly and gross things to interest children.
This book has lots of fun facts and great graphics. However, not really a travel guide and not for the first time visitor. It's better if you have unusual interests, like 'trash' trivia and have already seen all the popular NY sites. The name implies that you would follow a trail through the city of for each unique topic, but I'm not sure how feasible that would be. There is no indication of how close places are in relation to each other.
Got this for my daughter (she is 8) My husband is planning to take her to NYC for a weekend this year so I figured it would be nice for her to read up before they go. She loves it - so many things in there that she didn't know. Great book for kids that read chapter book
My 7 1/2 year old granddaughter came to Roma with my wife and I, along with this book. We are home now 6 weeks and she is still showing people all the places we went. I will never take her anywhere again without a "Not For Parents....." book for that city or country if I can help it. Well written and very informative for children (and grandparents!).
This book is just what we were looking for to take my 2nd graderto take in the sights. We bought the London one for a trip later this summer too.
I love these books. They great.
Took our 10 year old granddaughter to NYC and she loved this book. Lots of fun facts.
