This book is a great supplement to an introductory or intermediate college/university PR course. It is an easy read with great excerpts, contexts, and miscellaneous aspects that aid your reading and understanding. A lot of real-world examples are available which are most helpful to someone that has little experience in the real field. Furthermore, the book hits on very good points in an organized and structured manner. I liked the book so much that I have to decided to read into it further after my course has ended and study more of it for tips, suggestions, and practice.

Excessively wordy explanations, author uses two hundred words when thirty will do. Not a very good overall picture of public relations. My brother works as a PR executive and glanced this book over laughing. He said more than ninety percent was incorrect

Heavy on strategy and high-level principles. I wish there were more on tactics and their execution. Very light on social media.

Great book with lots of great information. Some things seems too wordy. The author could’ve chipped some stuff out, but can’t complain too much.

I give the Royal Companion two out of five stars for its poor plot construction, narrative mistakes a professional editor should have caught, and YA romance clichés clumsily mixed with the serious themes of sex trafficking, abortion, and slavery. Don’t read this book if you want romance or like happily ever after endings.This book is not correctly listed in an appropriate genre on Amazon. It’s highest ranking is under Romance-historical-medieval, landing it beside Regency Romances. It is also listed under YA Romance Fantasy fiction. Neither of these categories is appropriate. The sexual situations depicted are incongruent. This read will disappoint Regency Romance enthusiasts. I’ve read steamier bedroom scenes in Amish and Christian Romances. The most detailed scene involving sex is the gang rape. I think it's a poor choice when an author portrays gratuitous sexual violence but skips or shirks details of intimate scenes. For me this makes the narrative feel unbalanced and novice.What I liked:1) The themes that were explored including: people as property and how we are all beholden to someone, loves immunity to class subdivision, and the value of women. While I don’t think the story flushes out each of these themes, I do like the way the author dipped her toes into it. These themes not being sufficiently illustrated or exploited are part of what makes the novel unsatisfying, and work that would have benefit from a professional manuscript edit.What I didn’t like:1) The ending. The one hook that pulled me through the narrative was: will the hero, Prince Tyron and the heroine, Aldera be together in a more permanent way than what already existed when she was purchased as his Companion. Declarations of love were not presented as Aldera’s goal or what she needed to be happy in her life as a Companion. This made the ending flat and unsatisfying.2) The plot. What the protagonists need to overcome to live happily ever after is their separation based on a class system. The end of the book does not resolve this plot arch. If this is suppose to be continued on and resolved later in the series, it isn’t set up well or foreshadowed in a way that the reader can surmise. The hero and heroine lacking defined goals further weaken the plot. The reader is never told what Tyron or Aldera want out of life. This makes all character actions base and the story’s pace aimless. a. The hero’s conflict is related to PTSD from war and infighting with his older brother and father. He suffers due to his perpetual servitude as the soldier/war-leading figurehead for his family. The hero does little to express his motivation to serve his country or family in this role. He also does nothing to change, alter, or accept the hand he is dealt. He is passive and waits to make decisions until he no longer has a decision to make, which is by far one of the worst traits a warrior can have. He allows events, and other people to dictate his outcomes, which makes him unsympathetic and overall a non-swoon worthy looser of a hero. b. The heroine’s conflict is her status as property and the realization that all women in this fictitious place, to include the queen and princess, are property who can be bought, sold, bargained for, or owned through servitude. The heroine’s actions appear aimless since she never expresses any goals. We know she cares about her family and friends, but its difficult to determine if she wants to return to the farm, find contentment where she is, or seek a life where she can have more control over her destiny. The ending told me the heroine was content, but the actions and feeling in the narrative don’t support this. I don’t believe at the end of the book that Aldera has come to terms with the conflict she continually ruminates on as a Companion.3) YA Romance clichés clumsily mixed with serious themes of sex trafficking, abortion, and slavery. The clichés of love at first sight, Cinderella, and Pygmalion/My Fair Lady are intertwined with the heroine’s mother selling her into life as a sex slave for two gold coins. The heroine’s forbidden to conceive children, and any child she conceives would destroy her life as a Companion, be aborted, or kill her in the process of being aborted. She lives in harem of women who are raped by the men who own them or passed off to their owner’s friends at parties to be raped. I had a hard time dwelling on the more serious themes raised in the book because all the rape was swirled into this cliché fantasy-would be medieval world with hunts, horse back riding, archery practice, snow shoveling, and expensive dress up time. Every scene of the royal family’s political dealings can be skipped. They were unnecessary, predictable, and poorly constructed.Overall the read was a disappointment and I will not be reading the rest of the series.

There was a lot about this series that I really enjoyed. The characters were interesting, the plot set a good pace, and the writing was engaging. I'd have given this book 4 stars except the overall premise of the book, the "companion" premise was disturbing. I couldn't quite figure out if the author accepted the whole companion notion as okay and normal or if it was corrupt and demeaning to the girls. If there would have been a stronger censure at the end of the series for the inhuman slavery and treatment of these girls, I would have given it a higher rating. But other than that it was an entertaining read.

I've read 100+ kindle books in fantasy genre. this one was THE worst in my 5 year membership. It was extraordinarily and extremely dull, with unbelievable, unlikable, and far fetched characters. do yourself a favor, and pick something else. You've been warned.

Cons:1) There is little to no character development2) It just ends. I get it's the first book in a series. But it feels like the book stops in the middle of a chapter, and the start of the next book is the rest of the chapter.3) Sets up the idea of characters helping each other through their PTSD, but then does nothing with the idea.4) Very little real description. The only thing that gets any real detail is the dresses. For a book series about sex slaves, there are no detailed sex scenes. We get more info about the rape scene than we do about the consensual sex scenes.Pro:1) Good idea. Just not a great execution2) It wasn't very expensive.

When you rape a virgin main character there is no coming back from that for me. Had to DNF the book.

I absolutely loved this book, and I'm glad I stumbled upon it by accident. Fantastic word building along with good character development, and there is no instalove to be seen here. The romance is tangibly there throughtout this book without being too heavy, left to be further expanded in the next books (which it does so quite well thankfully, no heroines turning into helpless females are falling in love, thank god). Other than that, plot keeps you engaged and quality of writing is good. If you like fantasy romances (though there isn't any magic, etc in this book) with a solid plot to accompany, read this ASAP.

Where to start... I am a terrible reader. I often dont finish a series ( in books or on TV ). Don’t give me a “100 must read“ lists. If a book does not captivate me from start to finish, it’s lost to me. I have two toddlers so every moment I read is a precious moment stolen from the time that I could have spent with them.This series was however worth every second i spent reading it! From the moment I read the first sentence, to the final epilogue of book 3, I was happy... There were no disappointments, cringe moments, tolerated scenes, unnecessary explicit sex or irrelevant profanity. The story was full of adventure, romance, interesting characters, strong leads and life lessons ( dont forget those life leasons).As fast as Tanya bird can write it, I will read it. I can’t wait for the next!

I read a lot of fantasy, YA and new adult. While I like series filled with magic and flawless immortal men, I've been yearning for a more human story. I was worried this book, being labeled romance would be a snore. It was not! Tanya's writing still is so beautiful. I quickly read the other books in the series. It was such an interesting idea to be on the side of what is usually just a side character. I find detailed explanations of daily activities tedious but tanya did it right. All of it. I couldn't put these books down. Moments of sorrow and laughter woven together. Different cultures, different kingdoms and classes of people. She covered it all. There was no hollow feeling to the story. Characters are fleshed out to just the right amount. I could go on and on. I'll be checking out more from this author. Give it a read. You won't regret it.

This is a very interesting book on the swings in mainstream economic philosophy since Adam Smith published his Wealth of Nations in the mid-17th century. Skousen has done a great job in telling a lively (and well-reasearched) story on an otherwise dry subject. He tells a captivating story with a down-to-earth writing style that is uncommon among professors. Although the story does get somewhat technical here and there, it is told in plain enough language that lay readers can follow without too much difficulty.This is an engrossing human story that also provides a crash course in Economics for lay readers like myself.Very interesting and highly recommended.

The good:1. The book accomplishes what it says it will -- it gives a general history of economics from the publication of "The Wealth of Nations" in 1776 until today. The book gives a relatively brief biography of each of the "Big Three", explains the fundamental principles of each figure's economic model, and then gives the reactions and counter reactions to the each of "Big Three" by economists contemporary at the time.2. The history is clear and well-written. So long as you have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of economics, you won't need to do research outside of the book to understand what it is saying.The not so good:3. As some other reviewers have said, the author is opinionated. As this is a history, I suppose that is unavoidable, but the author is unashamedly opinionated. He likes Adam Smith. Any deviation from Adam Smith's philosophy and the author tends to use more inflammatory language in describing it. What is most bizarre though is that he frequently states that Adam Smith's system creates an "optimistic world" and criticizes opposition to Adam Smith by labeling them as "pessimistic" or such. The author's bias should be taken into consideration by the reader.4. Some parts of this book are copied word-for-word from the author's other book, "The Making of Modern Economics".

I rated this book a five starts because of the richness, (importance) and relevanceof its content. Although I believe the author could have made an even better effortto neutrality (on his personal views).I also like the easy reading, its rhythm and chronology (well written, I think...). I wasa little turned off by the inconsistency in the description of some concepts. It is myunderstanding that according to the author some ideas merit more depth than others.However, the author fell to accurately reveal the evidence against some those ideas.I just thought he was dismissive, opaque and perhaps sometimes bord with views he did not agree with.I would recommend this book to senior undergraduates students in economics andto those interested in social and world affairs.

He is balanced, judicious, lucid, and trenchant, and unlike his rivals he comprehends the validity of the Austrian critique of the conventional economics of demand side Keynesianism. This means he is not only intelligible but also right.

Yes, Skousen is easy reading and provides a great introduction to many great thinkers in the field of economic theory. I truly enjoyed learning about the "non-big three" as much as what he calls, "the big three."He is clearly a free-market, neoclassical enthusiast, which he indicates from the outset with his totem pole statue thing. His beliefs, as indicated by his totem pole, tell us early on to question his "facts," as well as his conclusions.My problem with the book was that it was written as if history had just ENDED and his "team" of thinkers had once-and-for-all WON. Historian writers should know better.What I really, really want right now after just having finished the book, in November 2012, is an update! This was written in 2007, on the eve of the second greatest financial collapse in our history. When we look at the underpinnings of this crisis, which is still quite alive for many of us, we see multiple examples of "free market capitalism" gone very very wrong. You can tell this was Kelly's capstone project. He said he spent 4 years writing it and the hard work paid off. I've read most of his work and I highlighted more sections of this book than his others. A book for anyone who wants true lasting joy

Very excellent. I had seen Matthew in person several years ago. He makes a good and passionate and a full life attainable and what we should strive for. I would like our Bible Study group to all read this book and discuss it. I plan on rereading this selection and to take note so I am able to read and review the valuable points that Matthew had stressed. Our lives are worth more than we make of them. I could write on and on how impressed I was with this book!

Matthew Kelly is very motivational. He mixes the Catholicism with his motivational writing very well. If you are looking for a motivational book with Christianity mixed into it, this is your book. Great author, look forward to reading his other books.

The secret writings of Matthew Kelly. Apparently Kelly was advised to stop writing about hearing God's voice. Of course, anyone who listen knows that God speaks. Thankfully Matthew Kelly continued to listen and to pass on what he heard, even if he no longer talks about a personal source. He is a glorious defender of Catholicism and he provides practical advice on how to become a better version of yourself.

I have not completed reading the book. I am finding this book inspiring.I look forward to my reading time each day. This book has provided mewith answers to some problems I needed help with but did not know where to turn.

I can't think of enough good things to say about this book and Matthew Kelly. It was inspiring for me. The young author is certainly a messenger who has be bless with the spirit of God. Everyone should read it, I am sure we all will not get the same message but will be inspired in some way just the same. I will read it again and again.

Matthew Kelly shares an inspirational walk with God and how to dilute meaningless "stuff" in our lives that keep us from being close to God. His insight to listening is very good - he hits the nail on the head. He also distinguishes the difference between blessings and what we Westerners perceive as our rights. An overinflated ego doesn't notice the miracles in life which keeps God's plan hidden. I shared this book with my 25 year-old son. He is reading a little of it everyday.

This book is by far the best text available on the topic. Professor Guiggiani has written a book that is based firmly in classical mechanics, and in so doing, dispels many of the concepts and terms that can be confusing and misleading in the field of vehicle dynamics.Vehicle dynamics can be considered to be the study of rigid body kinematics and dynamics. Yet, many of the concepts (roll center) and the terminologies are inaccurate and therefore confusing. There is nothing different or special about the study of the motions of a vehicle under applied forces and moments, and it seems much of the lack of understanding comes from the fact that tires are highly non-linear force-producing devices. Fortunately, Professor Guiggiani addresses even this topic with ease and great clarity.This is the only text I have seen which addresses the kinematics of vehicle cornering using the concept of the inflection circle, and other concepts borrowed from planar analysis. I feel very strongly that this approach will lead to a much greater understanding of the kinematics of both road and race cars then is currently applied in the respective industries.I can't recommend this text highly enough; if you have an interest in understanding the dynamics of road and/or race vehicles, there is no better resource available. Enjoy.

I am currently writing my Master's Thesis on a Fully Autonomous Vehicle Cruise Control System and this book has given me a greater understanding of Vehicle Dynamics, all I know in that area I owe it to the author. My focus is Control Systems Engineering and had never taken a class on Vehicle Dynamics. If you have previously studied Kinematics and Dynamics, then this book should be extremely easy to follow and understand. I have read many books on Vehicle Dynamics, and this book excels in its area. After reading the book I had some curiosity about whom the author was, because of the excellent material quality; I wasn't surprised by the amazing experience and credentials of Dr. Guiggiani.

The best book of vehicle dynamics I encontered so far.The author introduces some quite innovative concepts like the vehicle invariant point, the track inveriant point, the map of achievable performance together with a rigorous analysis of the kinematics of cornering.Also the most classical concepts are rediscussed, like the handling diagram, the single track model and the roll axis: the review is carried out however keeping a critical eye and without giving anything for granted.The typical aspect of handling, braking and ride behavior of racing cars are also analyzed pointing out the main differences with respect to road cars.A state-of-the-art model of wheel with tire is presented in the last chapter, together with new and innovative concepts like "the tire action surface".A MUST READ FOR CURIOUS STUDENTS AND AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS

The topics covered in this book have been of great benefit to me in my Graduate studies in bioinformatics. The layout and presentation of material is clear and concise and delves into detail where necessary. I'm not a big user of mind-mapping, but the topic maps that precede each chapter allowed me to quickly tie together key concepts and my courses covering the material have allowed me to rely on this book as a supplmental reference where necessary to help me with material I needed further expansion on.I found the coverage of phylogeny and tree construction to be of great benefit and I regularly use this book as a go to reference at work when I need to recall or review a topic.If you are bioinformatician or a computer scientist who needs a good reference for the key concepts applied to everyday bioinformatics, or just an individual interested in learning about bioinformatics concepts, this is a good book for learning bioinformatics theory.

It's clear and starts from conceptual issues using real exercises. I did not understand the principles of bioinformatics but now I understand many things!

They have done good job with figures but the text is too dry and one tend to loose interest overtime. This book will introduce you to the problems that Bioinformaticians deal with but don't expect to get any hands on skills. There are better books like 'Bioinformatics Data Skills' by Vince Buffalo for that purpose. In fact those practical skills are so important that I would suggest you read that book before you consider to buy this one. Hoping there will be a newer edition to this as things are moving very fast in this field.
